Enjoy a peaceful and authentic stay in our charming bourgeois house, surrounded by lush gardens.
Gite and Guest House in Barjols
Located in the heart of the old village of Barjols, our large old house offers 3 guest rooms and a gite for 4 people. Its garden invites you to enjoy the quiet and gentle pace of life in Provence “verte Verdon”.
Thanks to the tasteful decoration and furnishings, you will plunge into an atmosphere filled with the spirit of family homes where each generation has left its mark, its tastes, its history and a little of its soul …
We welcome you for a pleasant stay in this beautiful house renovated with respect for the authentic charm of old country homes in France.
This large “bourgeois” house would have been home to many owners over the centuries. Tanners and workers, nuns and the Barjolaise bourgeoisie (upper class families from Barjol)… We are still researching to find out more about the history of this grand residence. Situated in the pretty rue des Audiffren, its large entrance hall welcomes you inside. The main staircase, dating from the 17th century, leads to the 3 guest rooms, all located on the first floor:
- A family room overlooking the little rue des Audiffren and its fountain
- A double room with a view of the garden
- A double or twin room (on request) with view of the rooftops and swifts’ nests.
Like gites, guest rooms are not subject to any classification in France. The tourist offices have therefore proposed a qualification, subject to rigorous specifications, to guarantee you comfort and quality of reception during your stay in a guest room.
Behind the house, the garden is a real green haven where you can lay back and relax in the shade of the fig tree, the medlar tree or the climbing roses.
“La petite maison”, transformed into a gite, is right next to and accessible via the main house. It offers the luxury of two double bedrooms upstairs and an attractive living area on the ground floor. This small guest house benefits from its private garden overlooking that of the house and a pretty view of the Collegiate Church.
The house and the gite are not air-conditioned because we make sure we preserve the natural coolness offered by the insulation of the thick walls of our home. We therefore advise you, during your stay in the summer months, to leave the windows closed and the shutters ajar during the day and to open them at the coolest times in the evening and in the morning.
Because water is becoming more and more precious, we have got into the habit, in our daily lives, of filling a jug with the cold water in our showers. Rather than letting the cold water run away before it gets hot, we collect it to water the garden. If you like the idea and agree with our philosophy, you can do the same, don’t hesitate to let us know.
