Barjols also has charming squares shaded by century-old plane trees, cafés and restaurants, a wonderful Sunday market and of course its patronal festival, Saint-Marcel, which takes place in mid-January: fifes, tambourines, a medieval procession and the “danse des tripettes” dance, an unmissable event you will only find in Barjols!

On foot or by bike

Walking alongside the water at Vallon Sourn or in the Caramy gorges, hiking on the Petit Bessillon or biking on the Mediterranean cycle route which passes through Barjols, canoeing on the Argens or in the lower Verdon gorges… the surrounding area is packed with natural sites and pastoral landscapes to discover!

Places full of history and culture

Thoronet Abbey, Celle Abbey, Saint-Maximin Basilica, Pallières Castle, Entrecasteaux Castle, Valbelle Castle remains, but also the Red Gueules Museum in Tourves and the Museum of the Counts of Provence in Brignoles or the Museum of Prehistory in Quinson; places full of history in our beautiful Provence!

And if you like contemporary art, stop by the Contemporary Art Centre in Châteauvert or the La Falaise Art Center in Cotignac!

A few minutes away by car, discover the pretty Provencal villages that surround Barjols! Pontevès and the panoramic view from its medieval castle, Cotignac and its troglodyte dwellings, Fox-en-Foux and its magnificent viewpoint, Correns, the first organic village in France, Varages and its earthenware factory, Carces, Tavernes, Bras and many more.

Don’t hesitate to go a little further (30 minutes) to discover Aups and its truffle market, Régusse and its mills, Salernes, Lorgues, or even Tourtour and Villecroze…

Tastings

For lovers of sunny Provencal wines, the region is full of vineyards! Côtes de Provence or Coteaux du Verdon, these winemakers offer tastings and let you discover the famous rose, white or even red wines of Provence.

And to discover Provençal specialties, nothing could be easier! A little trip around the market to find honey, jam, goat or sheep cheese, olive oil, cured meats, beer and of course our sun-kissed fruits and vegetables. Each village has its Provençal market, what could be more ideal for preparing your picnic!

Barjols is at the entrance to the Verdon and Sainte-Baume Natural Parks! Meaning you have so many places to discover for an active or relaxing day out…

The Verdon gorges, the Sainte-Croix lake and the beautiful village of Moustier-Sainte-Marie.

The Sainte-Baume mountains, the Marie-Madeleine cave, the Mazauges icehouses.

If you prefer a day by the sea, several destinations are easily accessible.
